You ever just have one of those feelings? For some reason you get a vibe that something is right even when logic says it may not be. Well, that’s the feeling I have had all week when thinking about who I wanted to pick to win this race.
I know Ford has had a great record at Michigan International Speedway but they have barely shown any sign of being capable of winning a race thus far in 2010.
Tony Stewart was a thought I had because his program usually kicks into high gear about this time of year. But, he is racing in ‘The Dream’ at Eldora Speedway on Saturday and still has the pressure of promoting that event hanging over him this weekend. Next week may be a different story.
Of course, the Hendrick drivers are a good choice anywhere, but for some reason I just could not convince myself to pick one of them.
I kept coming back to the fact that I have had success this season picking Joe Gibbs Racing drivers. And probably because he has been the center of so much attention this week, Joey Logano is the name I kept coming back to.
How many times has it happened that a guy who has a firestorm(pun intended) of controversy surrounding him rises up and does well the next week? The incident between the young driver and Kevin Harvick last week is the very thing that can galvanize a race team.
I believe Logano and the entire #20 team led by veteran crew chief Greg Zipadelli are ready to rise to the occasion this Sunday in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400.
Logano will be joined in the top-5 by Denny Hamlin, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson.
Not that I haven’t already made a dark horse pick but look for A.J. Allmendinger to have a good weekend as well.
