My prediction: Tony Stewart will win in Chicago

As has often been said here and other places, this is the time of year in which Tony Stewart comes to life. The summer heat makes tracks hot and slick and that is exactly the type of surface a driver with extensive experience on dirt should do well on. Stewart has extensive experience on dirt.

Over the course of his career, Stewart has won an overwhelming majority of his races from June through the end of the season. As a matter of fact, only three of his 37 career victories have come within the first ten races of the season.

The Chicagoland Speedway has certainly done its part to aid Stewart’s second half surges. He has won twice at that facility and has collected seven top-5s in nine starts there. His most recent win was in 2007.

Also, Stewart has been running well of late. Before last week’s disappointing 25th on the always unpredictable restrictor plate race in Daytona, he had pieced together a string of four consecutive top-10s.

With all that said, I predict Tony Stewart will win the 400.

Stewart will be joined in the top-5 by Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Burton and Jimmie Johnson.

Look for Joey Logano as a dark horse surprise pick.
