Fastrak â€˜Late Model Showdown at The Gapâ€™ scheduled Saturday, June 21
CARNESVILLE, Ga. â€” Fastrak Racing Series founder Stan Lester is excited to announce Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn., will be the location for the â€œLate Model Showdown at The Gapâ€ on Saturday, June 21.
With Fastrak Race Promotions putting this event on, both the Fastrak Modern Chevrolet Southeastern Touring Series competitors and Super Late Model chauffeurs will each battle in $2,000-to-win main events. Also racing on Saturday, June 21 will be Hobby Stocks.
â€œIâ€™m really excited about this upcoming â€˜Late Model Shootout at The Gapâ€™ because it will cater to fans who like both Super Late Model and Crate Late Model racing,â€ said Fastrakâ€™s Lester. â€œI know a strong contingent of touring Fastrak racers will be present, and I believe all the top Super Late Model competitors from around the East Tennessee region will show up for the twin $2,000-to-win races. Iâ€™ve said it since the first time I ever visited Volunteer Speedway â€“ â€˜I love The Gap.â€™ I hear it all the time from the fans, about how they would just like coming out for a night of Late Model racing, and basically thatâ€™s what weâ€™re giving them (fans) at this event.â€

Austin Dillon of Lewisville, N.C., currently a competitor in the NASCAR Camping World East Series and the teenage grandson of legendary NASCAR multi-car team owner Richard Childress, will be present and look for suchÂ East Tennessee Super Late Model chauffeurs as Vic â€œThe Thrillâ€ Hill of Morristown, Kerry Jones of Bristol, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, Greenevilleâ€™s Jeff Maupin, Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, Knoxvilleâ€™s Mark Douglas, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Rogersvilleâ€™s Mike Smith, Mark Vineyard of Powell, Knoxvilleâ€™s Rick Rogers, Anthony White of Clinton, Dale Ball of Johnson City, Powellâ€™s Steve Smith, Jonesboroughâ€™s Bobby Mays, Bryan Hendrix of Knoxville, Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Greenevilleâ€™s Michael Jackson, Stacy Boles of Claxton, John King of Kingsport, Shon Flanary of Mount Carmel, John Tweed of Greeneville, plus several others battling it out for the $2,000 winnerâ€™s share of the purse.
The pit gate will open on Saturday, June 21 at 3 p.m. with the grandstand gate opening at 5 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., to be followed by qualifying and then racing action.
Both the Fastrak Racing Series Crate Late Models and the Super Late Models will lock the top-12 in from qualifying, with the remainder of the starting positions to be determined through heat races and if needed last chance consolations. The top-six starting spots in both Late Model features will be determined through the kidsâ€™ draw, where six lucky youngsters will be selected from the grandstands to come down on the front straightaway to select the starting positions for the respective driver theyâ€™re paired-up with.
An autograph session with both Fastrak Racing Series and Super Late Model drivers participating will be held beginning at 6 p.m. in the spacious pavilion building located behind the front-straightaway grandstands. Everyone loves fireworks, and an impressive aerial display will illuminate the skies over Volunteer Speedway.
Adult grandstand admission is $15, with kids 12-and-under admitted free. Backside tier-parking and pit admission will be $30.
With everyone experiencing tight budgets due to the tough economic times, who wouldnâ€™t want to save some money? Fastrak Race Promotions advises race fans, drivers and crew members to be on the lookout all around the East Tennessee region in businesses for coupons good for $5 off either pit or grandstand admission, thus making the night of racing even more attractive.
A night of open practice will be held on Friday, June 20. The pit gate will open at 6 p.m., with practice scheduled from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Pit admission will be $20 per person, and the grandstands will not be open to watch practice.
