Maryville,TN (July 12,2008)- John Sims heard Mountain Raceway was having a $1,000 to win street stock race and thought it would be a good idea to come and get it. Fast car dash winner Reagan Williams would bring the very strong 20 car street stock field down to the green with Sims hot on his tail. First yellow would wave on lap 1 when legend James Price would spin in turn 1, Price would be done for the night. Williams would get over taken by Sims on lap 10 with the cars of Scott Johnson and Travis Reno coming up through the field fast. Johnson would get a chance at Sims when the caution waved again for David Price who was in the top 5 lost a wheel in turn 1. Johnson would put pressure on Sims but would never get by him. Leaving him to take his first Mountain victory of 2008. Scott Johnson, Tim Kilby, Travis Reno and John Jenkins would round out the top five.
Pure Mini class would see a out of towner capture his first win. Andrew Green of Harriman would get the early jump over Alex Squires and would never look back. Points leader Scott Webb was charging hard thru the field but would never get close to Green. Squires would fade to third.
Dragon Pit modified mini’s Rusty Knox had been denied a win all season, but last night he changed that. After dominating the heat race he continued that right into the feature event. He would get out to a big lead over Kendall White. Further back in the filed while Knox was checking out the battle for 4th thru 7th was a good one. They were swapping spots every lap. But then Jacob White would get away from that at try to run down the leader. A caution for a spinning Steve Ritchey would draw the field up to Knox’s bumper. But that would not matter Knox would capture his first win of 2008. Kendall White 2nd and Jacob White 3rd.
Warrior Race cars super late model class seen a familiar face take his first win in 2008. Mike Weeks got out to a early jump over Bobby Giffin. But caution would fly when Giffin spun on his own exiting turn 4. On the next restart Weeks would do the same. The filed got in line and seemed it was going to stay single file. But Roger Best had other intensions. Best seemed to be shoot out of a cannon. After starting from the rear he would make his way up thru the field and with 2 laps to go getting his self to the back bumper of Weeks. Best would put hard pressure on Weeks in turn 1 but would slip up and allowing Weeks to capture his first win of 2008. Roger Best second and Bobby Giffin third.
The name Best is all to familiar with the racing crowd at the Mountain Raceway. But last night it was a new Best putting his name right there beside his father’s in the winner’s column. Hunter Best has been race since he could walk and last night he would capture his first of many to come crate late model victory. Best got out to a very commanding lead leaving the rest of the field to fight for second. Steve Jones starting from middle of the pack was charging hard and was putting pressure on second place Jason Trammell when the slower car of Justin Summer spun in turn 2. Trammell and Jones never had time to react and both driver spun to avoid Summers but would end up slamming in to him. Summer would be done for the night. The other two would get a chance a Best but never got close. Jones would get second and Josh Collins would sneak by Trammell to capture third place.
Team zero crew member Greg Martin hasn’t gotten to race very much this year with being on the road with team zero’s driver Eric Jacobsen. But when he does he makes it worth it. Martin set fast time and brought the field down to the green but the would not last very long, cause when the middle of the pack starter number 22 sportsman of Ernie Teaster got to turn 1 something made his car not turn sending him into the turn 1 exit gate full speed. Teaster car would come to a rest about 10 feet past the gate in 2 pieces. The medics would quickly respond to the wrecked car and help stablelive the driver who was alert. After a 30 min red flag the gate opening would be repaired an Teaster tranported to the hospital. So on the next restart Martin would do the same but the cars of Adam Beeler and Makr Rosner would make conatct putting 07 champ Rosner out of the race. So on the final restart Martin would never look back taking the win. But there was some great side by side racing action in the middle of the pack with Sammy Russell, Mark Leach, and Randy Satterfield. Martin wold take his second win of the year in as many starts with Jake Teague getting second and Adam Beeler third. In one of god’s wonders of the world Ernie Teaster would be back at the track watching the rest of the night racing action after that horrfic wreck.
Mini Stock class seen Brian Courtney return to the winner circle for the first time in 2008. Brian would hold off his younger brother Michael Courtney for the win. Alan Vanwhy and Rick King would put on good show running close to each other the whole race. Michael Courtney would get second with Tom Vann getting third.
Also don’t forget next saturday July 19th the Mountain Raceway will once again host the Advance Auto Part Thunder Series hot summer nights $3,000 to win event sponsored by Airport Motor Mile Wrecker Service.
