Sprint Cars coming to Volunteer Speedway

By admin | July 17, 2008

United Sprint Car Series to be in action Saturday, July 19 at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The O’Reilly United Sprint Car Series will make a long-awaited return to Volunteer Speedway for the “Summer Fury at The Gap” on Saturday, July 19. The last appearance at the track by the alcohol-burning, winged USCS sprint cars was during the 2000 racing season.

Along with sprint cars, also racing will be the “Gateway Ford” Super Late Models and “Courtesy Chevrolet” Crate Late Models.

“It’s been several years since we (USCS) were last at Volunteer Speedway, and I know from talking with our sprint car competitors … they’re all excited about getting to ‘The Gap’ and racing on those high banks,” said USCS President Pete Walton from his office in Atlanta, Ga. “When a lot of race fans hear the word ’sprint,’ they think fast. And racing just doesn’t hardly get much faster than what you’ll see at Volunteer Speedway. The late models up there are fast, but our sprint cars will absolutely fly around that speedplant. It’s going to be an awesome show, and I’m sure the fans in East Tennessee will love watching the winged, outlaw sprint cars from the USCS.”

See such drivers as defending United Sprint Car Series champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, Tenn.; Marshall Skinner of West Memphis, Ark.; Matt Linder of Hoschton, Ga.; Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, N.C.; Wayne Reutimann Jr. of Zephyrhills, Fla.; Steven Lines of Melbourne, Australia; Danny Martin of Sarasota, Fla.; Tim Crawley of Benton, Ark.; Dave Thorman of Greenville, S.C.; Derek Hagar of Marion, Ark.; Jeremy Scott of Franklin, Ga.; Jake McClain of Indian Trail, N.C.; Nick Bashford of China Grove, N.C.; Brad Wickham of Forest City, N.C.; Nick DeFeo of Marietta, Ga., and others.

Anyone who attended the Saturday, July 12 racing program at Volunteer Speedway, if you bring your grandstand ticket (or pit armband) back on Saturday, July 19 for the USCS sprint car night of racing, you will be admitted for only $5 in the grandstands. That’s right, only $5 adult grandstand admission if you bring your Saturday, July 12 ticket (or armband) back to redeem it for the discounted $5 admission on Saturday, July 19. The pit armband may only be redeemed for $5 grandstand admission!

Otherwise, adult grandstand (general) admission will be $15, youth (ages 10-15) $5, with 9-and-under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $30.

The pit gate will open at 4 p.m. and the grandstands at 5 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin around 7:45 p.m., to be followed by qualifying and then racing action.

Volunteer Speedway is located just off Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville) on Interstate 81. For more information, contact the track at (423) 235-5020 or vist the Web site at www.VolunteerSpeedway.com
