2008 Review/ 2009 Preview: Scott Speed

Over the next few days and weeks I will be presenting a review of 2008 and a preview of 2009 for each of the drivers and teams who appear to be set for a full time run in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. For the most part these pieces will run in order by car number. If you should miss out on your favorite driver simply type his name into the search box at the upper right hand portion of the website.

#82- Scott Speed

Former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed will campaign for Rookie of the Year on the Sprint Cup Series in 2009.

Speed showed last season that his adaptation to stock bodied cars would be a quick one. He scored wins in both the Camping World Truck Series and the ARCA Series. Also, he made a splash in his brief five race venture into the Sprint Cup Series by qualifying on the outside of the front row for the season ending race in Homestead, Florida.

Speed will driver the #82 Toyota for Team Red Bull. This car was #84 in 2008. With A.J. Allmendinger behind the wheel this team managed two Top 10s and nine Top 15s last year.

Allmendinger also won the Sprint Showdown qualifying race for the Sprint All Star Race in May.

In 2009, Scott Speed will surprise many who have not paid attention to his earlier career. He will have the usual ups and downs of a rookie but his ups will be higher than most will expect.
